*Separate serum or plasma soon after sample collection and place in a transport tube. The concentration of some minerals can be significantly affected by: leaving serum in contact with the clot; delay in separating the plasma; and hemolysis. Ship samples refrigerated or frozen. **Trace element screen –recommend royal blue top (available for serum with clot activator or plasma with K2EDTA) blood collection tubes. Red top tubes are acceptable (avoid contact of the serum with the rubber top).
