Malignancy profile - PTH, ionized calcium, PTHrP

Specimen Type/Volume

1 mL serum (minimum 200 uL for PTH and 300 uL for iCa) and 0.5 mL plasma.

Freeze sample prior to shipment. Must arrive below 15 C or 60 F.

Collection Protocol

Both serum and plasma are required: 1 mL of a fasting serum for the PTH and ionized calcium. 0.5 mL of EDTA plasma for the PTHrP. Centrifuge samples within the first hour. Fasting is only necessary to avoid lipemia. If the sample is not lipemic, non-fasting is okay. Avoid hemolysis for PTHrP. Hemolysis will give false positives. Do not send whole blood (EDTA tube), separate plasma and then transfer into a plain tube, containing no additives, freeze. Must have serum (or heparinized plasma) for iCa.
