Affected tissue, lesion, ligated loop of intestine, fluid, exudate.

Ship in insulated container with freezer packs (tissue) or without freezer packs (anaerobic transport media).

Collection Protocol

1) Collect a cube of tissue maximum up to 5 x 5 x 5 cm into a leakproof sterile container. Freeze, or refrigerate if delivered to the lab within 24 h of collection. 2) Aspirate fluid/exudate, biopsy tissue, or swab the lesions and submit in anaerobic transport medium. Do NOT refrigerate. Minimize the exposure to oxygen during sample collection. Anaerobic culture is recommended on all abscesses and deep wound infections.

Additional Information

ID only. Susceptibility testing is not included as it is not routinely performed on anaerobes. If susceptibility testing is required please email the lab at ahlbact@uoguelph.ca for more information.
