This test is sent to an external laboratory. Shipping (test code: xtrnu) and handling (test code: xhand) fees are also applicable on each submission. External test price is subject to change. Stomach or rumen contents from acutely affected animals. Feces from monogastric animals. Feed or food - particularly where it is the suspected source and evidence of anaerobic conditions/spoilage is present. Hay may be unrewarding as the bacterium/toxin may be localized. Sample from deep inside the bale, near the bottom if it is wet. Look for evidence of animal carcasses as they are a frequent source. Collect multiple small pinches of hay and combine. Submit up to a half-gallon sized bag of loose hay. TMR and silage may also be unrewarding. Look for evidence of animal carcasses or dark foul smelling areas. Collect multiple small pinches and submit 10-50 grams. Canned food: submit whole cans if possible – especially if swollen, otherwise pack food tightly into a bag or container with minimal air space. Other feed: Pool multiple subsamples, focusing on any areas that are dark, discolored, foul smelling, or producing gas.
