Collection Protocol

Collect blood into a red-top vacutainer; avoid hemolysis. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible following collection and transfer to a leakproof tube. Refrigerate until shipped.

Additional Information

Measurement of fructosamine reflects average blood glucose over the previous 2-3 wk. Fructosamine is useful for the diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes mellitus, and for differentiating transient hyperglycemia related to stress from diabetes mellitus as transient hyperglycemia will not result in increased fructosamine values.
