Employer | Program Overview
This section provides how Guelph employers can participate in GAAP and how to submit a job posting to the Guelph Arts Apprenticeship Program.
Once Job postings are submitted to experienceguelph.ca and approved, they will be live for GAAP participants' to preview.
Please get in touch with the City of Guelph Economic Development or Guelph University teams if you have any questions regarding the employer information.
Tips to have your job noticed and increase the number of applications received:
- Include as much detail as possible in your job description.
- Talk about your company! What do you do? What is different about your organization?
- What type of candidate are you looking for? Use descriptive words that students can identify with.
- How does this role fit into your organization? Do you have a team this individual will be a part of? What are they working towards?
- What are the responsibilities associated with this position? Provide as many as possible!
- What are the qualifications? Do not overload on technical skills. REMEMBER: Students are new to the job market but are very willing to learn!
Graduating Students from the Bachelor of Arts with a College of Arts Major and Bachelor of Arts and Science, College of Arts Minor, are eligible to participate in the Guelph Arts Apprenticeship Program.

The Employer Process
Step 1: register your business
Create an employer account on the Experience Guelph site. This will allow you to submit a job posting, review applications, and book interviews.
To build your account, please go to the Employer Registration Portal (Tip: In the 'Recruitment' list, check the "GAAP (Eligible Guelph employers only) box. You will receive confirmation within 1-2 business days, at which time you can complete Step 2.
Step 2: submit your job postings
Log on to Experience Guelph to post a job(s).
On the left-hand side, click the ‘Employer User Guide’.
Under ‘Job Posting,’ click ‘Guelph Arts Apprenticeship Program (GAAP) Job Posting,’ and a step-by-step guide will open.
Your posting will be uploaded to Experience Guelph’s career job portal within 1-2 days, and only qualifying GAAP students will view and apply to job postings.

Step 3: conduct interviews
The interviews are ongoing. In order to align this process as closely to your typical hiring practices, employers will be responsible for coordinating all necessary interview timings and locations. Should you require space on campus to interview, please get in touch with Nicola Edwards at naedward@uoguelph.ca
Step 4: secure a funded position
If you identify a successful candidate, before making a job offer to the student, please email Nicola Edwards at naedward@uoguelph.ca to secure your funded position. This position will be held for you until an employer contract is signed.

Step 5: provide a job offer letter
The employer provides the student with a job offer letter that outlines the position details, compensation, and work terms. Once signed by the student, please provide a copy to Nicola Edwards at naedward@uoguelph.ca
Step 6: sign the employer contract
The University of Guelph will provide the employer with an employer contract. The employer contract will include 4 monthly terms of payments (months one, two, eleven and twelve), to reimburse wages only.
Step 7: invoice for salary reimbursement
The employer is responsible for invoicing the University of Guelph at the end of months one, two, eleven and twelve to receive reimbursement.
