Over 200 French-Speaking Secondary Students Welcomed to the University of Guelph for French for the Future Event
The University of Guelph's School of Languages and Literatures recently hosted the French for the Future event aimed at fostering French language and culture education among secondary school students. Over 200 French-speaking high school students from Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo gathered on March 19 at the University Centre for a day of enriching activities.
The event served as a platform to empower and connect youth across Canada. The event featured workshops led by local community members, an engaging public speaker, and a captivating cultural performance by local Franco-Ontarian musicians.
Workshops covered diverse topics, ensuring that students could explore areas of interest within the French-speaking community. From discussions on local politics with Bilingual Guelph City Councilor Dominique O’Rourke to hands-on experiences in French cuisine at the Anita Stewart Memorial Food Laboratory, participants were immersed in various aspects of French language initiatives. Additionally, sessions on exchange programs such as the Official Languages Program, along with staff from the Centre for International Programs, provided valuable insights into opportunities for further language education.
