Events and Initiatives

The committee has an ongoing to commitment to maintain open dialogue around issues of diversity and social climate. To this end, the committee organizes events aimed at inviting informed discussion around issues within the department and within the broader profession. The committee is also tasked with undertaking initiatives to measure the climate of our department and to keep the department informed on where we are strong and where we could do better.

Some recent initiatives:

• conducted a climate and diversity survey of the department in Spring 2017
• developed a Best Practices document for the department
• began compiling a resources database on climate and diversity issues 

Some recent events:

• hosted a half-day department retreat and workshop to discuss the climate and diversity issues in Spring 2017
• The Department hosted the Canadian Society for Women in Philosophy annual conference in October 2019
