Susan Bach and Cloud Computing With Microsoft

This Thursday, March 26th, the School of Computer Science welcomed Susan Ibach, Developer Evangelist from Microsoft Canada to the University of Guelph.

Susan currently works as a Developer Evangelist, who shares her technical knowledge and helps developers, university students and faculty keep up with and adopt current Microsoft technologies, tools and opportunities.

Susan chatted with about 60 students about Cloud Computing and the Azure, Microsoft's cloud computing platform and service.

Net Zero Hackathon

The School of Computer Science is proud to host the Net Zero Hackathon this coming weekend - March 28th and 29th.

The event, organized by the SOCIS and the ES@UofG, will bring together undergraduate and graduate students (including recent grads) from the College of Physical and Engineering Sciences and the College of Business and Economics to build tools to encourage homeowners and residents to reduce their energy consumption.

Be The Change

The School of Computer Science is proud to announce that three SoCS students and their community partners were awarded the University of Guelph's Student Life's Be The Change award, and the Emilie Hayes Community Partnership award.

Hacking For Mental Health Success

This weekend 50+ students from across campus gathered to develop solutions to support positive mental health at the Guelph Hacks for Mental Health Hackathon. Working in teams of 2 to 4 students, participants developed tools to improve communication of existing on-campus services, built apps to encourage coping strategies with peers, or implemented tools to assist in the delivery of mental health services.

Guelph Tech Showcase 4.0

The School of Computer Science, Guelph Tech and Design, Innopshere, and Sandbox Software are hosting the fourth Guelph Technology Showcase in the Science Complex Atrium on Wednesday March 11th from 5 to 7pm. The event is a celebration of the local information technology community, and features a variety of local computer-based businesses and large organizations with IT departments. Students and visitors welcome!

SoCS Graduate Open House

Success At Pitch For Progress

During the weekend of February 21st, the University of Guelph hosted the 10th Annual Universities Fighting World Hunger Conference. As part of the weekend, students were challenged to pitch ideas that could change the world.

School of Computer Science students Aftab Ahmad, Nic Durish, and Justin Gruber, joined forces with Food Science student Lauren Jans to pitch their winning idea - the Smartbin. For their efforts they were awarded top prize and $2000.
