Planet Bean Conducts In-Class Coffee Tasting

Planet Bean, a sustainability-focused Guelph-based coffee organization, conducted a coffee tasting in Prof. Justin Taillon's HTM*1000: Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism course this afternoon. Slow Food, a professional association in the School of HTM, assisted with the entire event. The students learned the complexities of the coffee industry, from the supply chain to roasting.

HTM Students Working with Planet Bean

Students in Prof. Justin Taillon and Prof. Michael von Massow's HTM*4500: Hospitality Analytics course spent the past five days working with Planet Bean. They are working with ownership to improve sales and product offerings for the local coffee house. In October this group will earn CHIA certification (for hotel consulting) and put their newfound skills to work at Ports of Call Resort in Turks & Caicos, where they will create a marketing program for the new ownership and management on the Caribbean island destination.

 

World Tourism Day A Success

World Tourism Day took place on Friday, September 27th and with this years theme of Water Conservation, students of the Hospitality and Tourism program had the opportunity to take a tour of the Nestlé Waters Canada bottling plant.

It was a huge success and it was wonderful to see what the company is doing to promote Water Conservation and Sustainability.

Thank you to those students that took part and to Nestlé for providing such an insightful tour.

Christine Fawcett discovered the key to success when she started her own business, Keystone Fine Wines. “I’m not just selling wine; it’s the business of wine,” she says, adding that her knowledge of food and wine combined with her business background allows her to work with a variety of clients in the hospitality industry.

World Tourism Day is quickly approaching on Friday, September 27th with the theme of Water Conservation.

Nestle Water Company will be giving Hospitality and Tourism Management students the chance to be a part of their exclusive tour of the bottling plant here in Guelph. During this tour, they will learn what the company is doing to promote water conservation and sustainability.
 


HTM Students Attend HFTP Dinner Aboard The Empress

On Thursday, September 19, Prof. Justin Taillon and 11 HTM students attended an HFTP dinner in Toronto on a five-storey boat named "The Empress". At the event students mingled with hotel industry professionals throughout Ontario. Justin Taillon was officially initiated as an elected officer of HFTP, the students impressed the professionals and had a good time, and five students even won the door prizes! Professor Justin Taillon To Discuss Education Through International Tourism

Professor Justin Taillon has been invited by the University of Waterloo to speak at an annual lecture series. He will discuss "Education through International Tourism", which focuses on how study abroad trips are an important part of a well-rounded education in hospitality & tourism. Other speakers in the series include Geoffrey Wall, Stephen Smith, Sanjay Nepal, Paul Eagles, and many more top Canadian researchers in the field of tourism. The lecture will take place on September 27th at 8:30am in the University of Waterloo Arts Lecture Hall (AL211).
