$12,500 in scholarships to support student gender equity initiatives

Applications are now open for the annual HeForShe gender equity scholarships, which total $12,500 across three student-based scholarships. The scholarships are in support of the United Nations’ HeForShe initiative and are funded by the Angel Gabriel Foundation and the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics.

Co-op in unique places: Nathan Muir-Cressman, Lang BComm

Adding a co-operative education term (co-op) to your degree can be a career-defining decision. That's why all majors within the Lang School's Bachelor of Commerce program features a co-op option. Co-op employers include a range of organizations, from local businesses and nonprofits to large national and international corporations. That means Lang students not only have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, but they have the chance to work in several unique places across Canada and the world.

Lang business students help solve real-world problems in case competition featuring Labatt Brewing Company

Last week, Lang business students had the opportunity to pitch creative business solutions to executives from Labatt Brewing Company during a live virtual case competition. The competition is part of a fourth-year capstone course that challenges students to apply lessons learned in the classroom to real-world challenges facing companies.

This year, the Lang School partnered with Labatt to propose a variety of challenges the company may face, ranging from sustainability initiatives and engaging new consumer markets, to strong e-commerce strategies during a pandemic.

Lang hosts global symposium on qualitative accounting research

Last week, the Lang School’s Department of Management hosted the 5th annual Qualitative Accounting Research Symposium, an initiative that brings together researchers from across the world to discuss accounting practices in a social, political, and economic context.

Researchers joined via a virtual platform to share their interest in qualitative accounting research from diverse methodological and theoretical perspectives. The event was well attended with 235 attendees joining from over 25 countries.

Lang real estate students to compete for cash prize thanks to new scholarship

The Condo Store, one of the largest pre-construction real estate syndicates in North America, has established an annual scholarship to support real estate students at the Lang School. As part of the School’s commitment to provide financial support for students during the pandemic, Lang real estate students will have the opportunity to compete for a cash prize for the next five years (supported by University matched funds) in the third-year real estate appraisal course.

Lang hosts first-ever Canadian inter-university Tax Conference and Case Competition

With faculty support, Lang accounting students hosted the inaugural Lang Tax Conference over the weekend, Canada’s first inter-university tax conference and case competition. The idea behind the Lang Tax Conference was conceived by Prof. Sonia B. Dhaliwal, the faculty lead on the conference with a vision to instill curiosity in the minds of students and give them a platform to showcase their critical thinking and tax research skills.
