Over 350 Ontario high school students travelled to the University of Guelph last week, competing in the second annual Business Pentathlon, a competition hosted by the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics.

Designed by undergraduate Lang business students, the Business Pentathlon invites Ontario high schools to compete in five fun and challenging business-focused events that test their business knowledge, communication and leadership skills.

As the University of Guelph searches for a dean of its newly named Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, an interim dean has been appointed.

Sara Mann, currently a professor in the Department of Management and the Lang School’s associate dean (academic), will serve as interim dean until the position is permanently filled; Mann will also continue her appointment as associate dean (academic).

Julia Christensen Hughes will complete a 10-year term as dean June 30.

Over 130 Lang business alumni gathered downtown Toronto on Wednesday night for Gryphons on Bay Street, an annual event for U of G grads who are working in the GTA to connect and network.

This year’s event was also a chance for alumni to celebrate the recent naming of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics and announce the recipients for this year’s Notable Alumni and 10x10 Alumni with Impact awards.

Statia Elliot, professor and director of Lang’s School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, has been appointed to the Travel and Tourism Research Association’s (TTRA) International Board of Directors.

Lang Commerce students have captured 17 awards, including two 1st place finishes, at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida on April 13th. The business students competed against approximately 1,400 DECA members at the global competition.

This adds to Lang’s impressive performance at the DECA-U Ontario competition in January, where the School took home 10 awards. In 2019, Lang business students have captured a total of 27 DECA-U awards.

The John F. Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise hosted their Hub Start Up Showcase this week, an event where entrepreneurs from the program’s Hub Incubator Startups compete in a pitch competition to win cash for their businesses.

Three awards were up for grabs this semester, including the Gryphons Helping Gryphons Award, the Warren & Deborah Jestin Impact Award, and the People’s Choice Award.

Earlier this month, this year's top academic Lang accounting students had the chance to interact with industry professionals at the annual KPMG Day, an exclusive day dedicated to networking with the accounting firm.
