College of Business and Economics faculty receive funding through SSHRC Insight Development Grants

The College of Business and Economics is proud to announce that three of its faculty members have been granted SSHRC Insight Development Grants.

Congratulations to professors Kurt Annen (Department of Economics and Finance), Louise Grogan (Department of Economics and Finance) and Philippe Lassou (Department of Management), who have been collectively awarded with more than $148,000 to support their research projects.

Dean Christensen Hughes returns from World Economic Forum

The University of Guelph had a presence again this year at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, including College of Business and Economics (CBE) dean Julia Christensen Hughes.

Last year, dean Christensen Hughes attended the forum and took part in the Global 100 Executive Roundtable on sustainable capitalism. This year, she echoed a similar message for sustainable business education on the world stage, specifically on the use of corporate bonds and the transition to a green economic.

Big data marketing analytics centre to launch at U of G

The University of Guelph’s College of Business and Economics set to launch the university’s first research centre focused solely on marketing analytics and consumer-driven “big data.”


Housed in the college’s Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies, the newly launched Marketing Analytics Centre will act as a “think-tank” for industry and academics to collaborate on leading-edge consumer-based research.

U of G student delegates at 2019 DECA U Ontario

U of G business students receive multiple top 3 finishes at DECA U Ontario competition

University of Guelph business students from DECA U Guelph travelled to Toronto last weekend to join more than 1,300 student delegates from across Ontario for one of Canada’s largest undergraduate conferences.

The DECA U Ontario competition is their flagship event, with student delegates competing in over 17 academic case categories, including both individual and team cases.

U of G business students place first at human resources case competition

Two teams of U of G business students travelled to Toronto over the weekend for the 14th annual Human Resources Industry Conference, hosted by the Human Resources Student Association at the Ted Rogers School of Management.

The conference brings together distinguished industry leaders and students from across Canada’s top business schools. In addition to networking with industry and attending workshops, student delegates also compete in the conference’s Organizational Behaviour Case Competition (OBCC).

U of G business students ring opening bell at TSX

Third-year University of Guelph Management, Economics and Finance students had the chance to ring the opening bell at TSX, after winning the fourth annual Richardson GMP case competition.

The competition is part of the Strategy of Mergers and Acquisitions (ECON*3360) course at U of G and is sponsored by the Canadian wealth-management firm Richardson GMP.
