Sean Lyons investigates the complexities of the generational identity
Generational identity is not as easily or simply defined as one might think. According to research by professor Sean Lyons, Baby Boomers, Generation Xers and Millennials often share like values within their respective groups, but it is insufficient to paint so many people with the same brush based solely on their birth year. Lyons’s findings on within-generation variance form an updated and more complex picture of generational identity, information that could help managers gain a stronger understanding of their multi-generational teams.

Bachelor of Commerce alumna Dian Chaaban has long appreciated the value of a strong professional network. Throughout her time at the University of Guelph, she focused on making connections that would help launch her career as a corporate lawyer, an aspiration that changed after she suffered a broken neck in the lead-up to writing her LSATs. While the injury caused her to miss the exam, it also gave her pause to reconsider what she wanted to do with her career.

School of Hospitality, Food & Tourism Management student wins OHI scholarship
Congratulations to School of Hospitality, Food & Tourism Management (HFTM) student, Amber Douel, on being awarded the 2016 Hotel Ontario Hostelry Institute (OHI) Gordon Cardy Hotel Management Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship recognizes enthusiastic and dedicated students entering their careers in the foodservice or hospitality industry.
Over the last year, Douel, a fourth-year Hotel and Food Administration (HAFA) co-op student, has been working with her co-op employer Coast Hotels Ltd. She is currently completing the final two years of her commerce degree.
Guelph business grad makes her mark on Macdonald Hall
Cassaundra Laundry’s experience as a U of G student was so impactful on her life that she wanted other students to have the same experience – but even better. Her gift to Macdonald Hall, the new home of the College of Business and Economics, will help give students in the college their own space to learn and collaborate.
