Protecting freshwater and farming soils from possible harmful effects of microplastics is the goal of a four-year, $1-million project led by University of Guelph researchers.
One of seven projects across Canada awarded a total of $7 million, the U of G collaboration will receive $999,400 from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and Environment and Climate Change Canada under their joint Plastics Science for a Cleaner Future initiative. Other funded projects will look at other aspects of plastic pollution.

The Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) Dean’s Office is pleased to announce Tahlia Dyer as the new Communications and Events Coordinator. She began in the role on May 17, 2021.
Dyer will support OAC’s strategic initiatives through a variety of internal and external communication projects and events. She will work collaboratively with a variety of contacts across OAC and the University of Guelph (U of G) and play a key support role in maintaining and enhancing communication with OAC’s various stakeholders.
The University of Guelph’s Canadian Agri-Marketing Association (CAMA) student chapter won the 2021 National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) Student Marketing Competition held remotely last month.
The team, consisting of nine Ontario Agricultural College students, competed against 23 other North American schools to grab top prize.

The University of Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus is launching a new entrance scholarship program to recognize top incoming students and attract future leaders to diploma programs in agriculture, environmental management and horticulture.
Set to be awarded for the first time this fall, the $1,500 scholarships will be offered under the campus Student Awards Program, which distributes close to $200,000 to students each year.
Recipients of these new scholarships will be selected based on admission average.
