On November 24 and 25, 2018, the annual University of Guelph Alumni Hockey Tournament took place. OAC alumni throughout the years gathered at the University of Guelph Arena to try their luck at this year’s title. The graduates of OAC 1984 were short a few alumni and allowed me, Anna, to join the “Old Mules” for the tournament and the festivities that followed. Here's a re-cap on the day's events.
The Department of Food Science is pleased to welcome Dr. Maria G. Corradini as an Arrell Food Chair in Food Quality, starting December 1, 2018. Corradini joins the Department of Food Science from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst where she was an assistant professor.
The OAC Dean's Office is pleased to announce Rebecca Hodges as the new Academic Programs Manager for the College. Rebecca will begin in the role on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
Alumni Affairs and Development and the OAC Dean’s Office is pleased to announce Shannon Fawns as the new development manager for the College. Shannon began in the role on Monday, October 15, 2018.
Two new faculty joined the Department of Animal Biosciences on September 1: Dr. Michael Steele, Assistant Professor in Animal Physiology, and Dr. Dan Tulpan, Assistant Professor in Computational Biology.
On Saturday, September 29th, 145 people gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University of Guelph’s Department of Food Science.
Alumni, faculty, staff and friends came together to celebrate the milestone, but the history of the department dates back even farther to 1885, which was when the department’s predecessor, the Department of Dairying, was established.
Natalia, who is on the University of Guelph Varsity Figure Skating team, has been figure skating since she was four years old. The animal science student has always loved animals and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. She was originally drawn to the University of Guelph by the agricultural programs and the Ontario Veterinary College, but being able to also continue her passion for skating at U of G made it a perfect fit.

The new Kees de Lange Scholarship in Swine Nutrition honours the beloved professor, Kees de Lange, who passed away on August 1, 2016. The graduate scholarship will be presented annually to a student focused on swine nutrition.
“It is a fitting tribute to Kees,” says Prof. Jim Squires, chair of the Department of Animal Biosciences. “Mentoring the next generation of swine researchers was an important focus for Kees.”
The OAC Dean’s Office is pleased to announce Lauren Schurman as the new Administrative Assistant to the Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Studies). Lauren will begin in the role on Monday, September 17, 2018.
