Mechatronics Engineering

Why Study Mechatronics Engineering at U of G?

The discipline of Mechatronics Engineering intersects the fields of mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering, as well as artificial intelligence. Mechatronics engineers are skilled in combining these disciplines to design hardware and software for automation, autonomous systems, and smart, computer-controlled devices.

As a graduate of Mechatronics Engineering, you will work on designing and building advanced robotic systems, integrating mechanical components with electronics and software, and developing smart technologies that enhance machine efficiency and responsiveness.

 Design, Implement and Develop Solutions

Graduates of our Mechatronics Engineering program will become experts in integrating mechanical and electronic/computer systems. Students will design, develop, and deploy robotics, automation systems, and the software that powers them.

Specialize in an Area of Study

Students in our Mechatronics Engineering program will have the option to specialize in one of these areas of study: Robotics-Control-AI or Manufacturing-Automation.

A Unique Mechatronics Program Driven by AI and ML

A distinct feature of our Mechatronics program is a strong Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML) component which is integrated in the curriculum.

The approved Mechatronics Course Calendar will be available in Spring 2025.

Gain Valuable Experience Through Co-op

Our Mechatronics Engineering co-op is a five-year program, with five work terms, designed to facilitate the transition of students from academic studies to a professional career improving students’ job search skills, work performance and networking abilities, and boosting resume experience. Portrait of William Childs
As a Mechanical Engineering student, I have taken some electives in the Mechatronics stream and really enjoyed learning about both electrical and mechanical engineering. I had an enjoyable experience getting hands on and using my knowledge in mechanical and electrical engineering to create a robot capable of navigating a maze. Seeing a standalone Mechatronics program being introduced is really exciting, and I think it’s going to be a fantastic opportunity for future students.
