Working with start-ups and academic entrepreneurs is a part of the day-to-day work that our New Venture Creation team performs. Their focus is on helping bring products and services based in UofG research to market through programming and mentorship support. While doing this work, they field a lot of questions from business founders who need resources that are readily available in the larger Guelph innovation and start-up ecosystem.

During the broadcast of the 2020 Gryphon’s LAAIR Pitch Competition, Dr. David Hobson, Manager, Technology Transfer & Entrepreneurship at the Research Innovation Office, announced the 2020 recipients of the Gryphon’s LAAIR Grants, who will receive a total of $420,000 in funding.
On May 27, 2020 five corporations who have roots in the U of G research community went head-to-head to win a total of $20,000 in prizes that can be used to help grow their businesses. The broadcast introduced U of G innovators who are putting knowledge into action in ways that will have an impact on the Ontario economy today and tomorrow, while facing extraordinary challenges presented by Covid-19.
