Preethi’s (she/her) hometown is Brampton, Ontario. Preethi completed a Bachelor’s degree at McMaster University studying earth and environmental science. She is now completing a Master’s degree at the University of Guelph in Rural Planning & Development.
The American Society of Landscape Architects Student Honor and Merit Awards jury was recently held via videoconference on May 29, 2020. The jury this year consisted of ASLA members: Virginia Burt, Neno Kovacevic and Linda Irvine. A select group of University of Guelph BLA and MLA graduating students were chosen to participate in the awards jury.

The Landscape Architecture Foundation’s Olmsted Scholars Program (named for Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture) recognizes and supports students with exceptional leadership potential who are using ideas, influence, communication, service, and leadership to advance sustainable design and foster human and societal benefits. The premier national award program recognizes outstanding students in accredited landscape architecture programs in the U.S. and Canada.
Angela’s (she/her) home town is Mississauga, Ontario. Angela completed a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Guelph in Environmental Management and is now completing a Master’s degree at the University of Guelph in Rural Planning and Development in International Development Studies.

The Landscape Architecture Alumni Association launches the LA AA 2020 Newsletter. In this edition we celebrate our first landscape architecture graduates of many years ago, welcome new graduates and share an update on the recent efforts of the LAAA.
Joshua Barrett, a PhD in Rural Studies student, recently published “Routes and roots: Factors that drive labour mobility in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada” in Applied Mobilities. The article discusses insights from his Master of Arts thesis focused on the impacts of labour mobility on communities in rural Newfoundland and Labrador.
2020 marks the 55th year since the Landscape Architecture program opened it’s doors at Guelph for the first time. After a premature start the previous year, 1965 marked the admission of 13 students (a 14th transferred later) and the school was underway. Faculty included Vic Chanasyk, founding director, Jack Milliken, assistant professor, and Bill Lytle, sessional instructor.
