Congratulations to the recent Landscape Architecture student recipients for the Landscape Architecture Canada Foundation's André Schwabenbauer and Peter Klynstra awards which were presented by Eha Naylor, LACF board member on November 16, 2017.

André Schwabenbauer Award:

Congratulations to landscape architecture students Katherine Xie in the Master of landscape architecture program; and Lindsey McCain in the Bachelor of landscape architecture program who are the recipients of the André Schwabenbauer award for 2017. 

Congratulations to Rachana Devkota, a Rural Studies PhD candidate in SEDRD, who has won The David and Ruth Hopper and Ramesh and Pilar Bhatia Canada Research Fellowship.  This prestigious award is given to the top female candidate from among the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Doctoral Research Awardees for 2017. The $20,000 award supports Rachana's field research project entitled Gender Transformative Approach to Agriculture Innovation System in Nepal. Rachana's academic advisors are Dr. Helen Hambly (School of Environmental Design and Rural Development) and Dr.

On January 18, 2018, Rural Studies PhD Candidate Valencia Gaspard delivered a panel presentation at the Dufferin County Community Poverty Reduction Summit in Orangeville, Ontario. The summit, centered around strategies for poverty reduction, was an opportunity for approximately 75 human service providers, practitioners, community members, as well as municipal, county, and provincial politicians, to discuss new opportunities related to mitigating poverty in Dufferin County.

University of Guelph, Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students recently participated in the Come Alive Outside design charrette for PL Roberston Public School in Milton.  Two student teams attended the Landscape Ontario Congress Awards of Excellence Ceremony on January 9^th, 2018 at the Delta Hotel Airport, Toronto which celebrates celebrates achievement in construction, maintenance and design.

Congratulations to the “Rising Up” team submission by fourth year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students from the University of Guelph who will be showcasing their design installation at the Winter Stations International Design Competition.  This competition brings temporary public art installations to The Beaches, an exhibition to celebrate Toronto's winter waterfront landscape.  “Rising Up” was selected from an internal class competition as part of the BLA4 Studio, and chosen by a jury, including faculty members and representatives from the W

One of the two women Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed to the Senate on Monday is Mary Coyle, a University of Guelph alumna.   Mary was one of the first graduates of what was then the University School of Rural Planning and Development (USRPD) graduate program, now part of the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development of the University of Guelph. 

Studio V is a journal of Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph. “V” is, incidentally, not for vendetta, but is a tribute to the journal’s original name (Studio Vantage), our commitment to openness in interpretation, and a nod to five (V!) LA studios in our building.

Joseph Clement is a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture alumnus from the University of Guelph and is the Writer/Director/Co-Producer of the film Integral Man.

Recent Master of Landscape Architecture graduate Adele Pierre won the Award of Merit for Student Projects from the City of Hamilton - Urban Design and Architecture Awards, which was presented on November 9th at the City’s award celebration.
