The University of Guelph's School of Environmental Design and Rural Development hosted its third Landscape Architecture Guest Lecturer of the speaker series on November 16th. Fellow ASLA member, Kona Gray, of EDSA Inc in Florida, offered an inspiring talk entitled, "Global Design Matters - the Future of Landscape Architecture". Kona has over 25 years of landscape architectural and urban design experience in the profession.

On October 26-28, in partnership with Come Alive Outside, Landscape Ontario and Gelderman Landscape Services hosted one of the 2017 Design Challenges, bringing Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students from the University of Guelph and Landscape Management students from Niagara Parks School of Horticulture to participate in a round-table discussion, design charrette and participatory design session with students, staff and administrators at P.L.

Guelph's 10 Carden hosted a rooftop design charrette on September 29, 2017, which included consideration for event space for social gatherings, food production, pollination, art installations and more. BLA and MLA students generated ideas for what will become an important feature of the community hub's newly retrofitted building at 42 Carden Street.
Congratulations to Professor Sean Kelly, Director of the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development who will receive the Canadian Society of Landscape Architect’s Teaching Award for 2017. The CSLA Teaching Award recognizes an individual who has made a substantial and significant contribution to landscape architecture education.
The City of Hamilton recently announced that the Forrec-led design team, “Hamilton: Hammer City,” has won the Pier 8 Promenade design competition. The City of Hamilton is undertaking a design competition to select a design team and determine a design for the new Pier 8 Promenade Park to be located along the north and east edges of Pier 8.

The 4th year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Studio will undertake this year’s Winter Stations Project in the Beach Area of Toronto. This projects deals with community design interventions, and creating installation spaces that attract and enhance the community.
