Alliance researcher among world-renowned U of G Faculty honoured with Royal Society Fellowships
A record number of University of Guelph faculty have been named Fellows of The Royal Society of Canada, the country’s most prestigious body of independent scholars, researchers and creatives at the forefront of intellectual leadership.
Among the recipients is Dr. Manjusri Misra, a professor of biological engineering and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Biocomposites. Misra is a global leader in sustainable materials whose contributions to the advancement of biopolymers and biocomposites have reduced global dependence on fossil polymers, greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
Misra plays a vital leadership role in the delivery of the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance research program as a research program director.
Her Alliance-supported research has led to:
- More sustainable biocomposites, used in commercial applications including vehicle head lamps
- Sustainable packaging made from non-food biomass
- Eco-friendly cutlery made from biomaterials
- The first 100 per cent compostable single-served coffee pods, PURPOD100™.
