Kelsie MacLellan breeds new tomato varieties for commercialization for HeinzSeed, based out of Leamington, Ont. When she was a student at the University of Guelph, she spent summers working at the Ontario Crops Research Centre in Simcoe, which has been strengthening the fruit and vegetable industries for more than 60 years.

The research centre is owned by Agricultural Research and Innovation Ontario and managed by U of G through the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance.

“That’s where the link happened with theoretical, mathematical and genetic things I love to study. Agriculture was a practical application," MacLellan said in an article in The Brantford Expositor.
