Workshop: Write a Successful History Paper - w. Nick Van Allen

This workshop is designed to introduce history students (both new recruits and seasoned veterans, 1st to 4th Year) to some of the principles of writing papers and book reviews in history. We'll discuss: * avoiding common grammatical and structural errors that tend to appear in history papers; * planning and constructing introductions and conclusions; * paraphrasing; and incorporating direct quotations from primary and secondary material.

Stirring the Pot: Natalie Cooke on Digital Food History

Nathalie Cooke, a professor of English at McGill University, is a Visiting Professor in the History Department this month. Dr. Cooke is the founder and editor of CuiZine: The Canadian Journal of Food Culture, and is will speak on October 21st from 1:00 - 2:30: "Stirring the Pot: Food Studies in the Digital Age." Part of the Digcafe Series, the talk accounts for the intersection of on-line journals, the digital humanities and Canadian food culture. All Welcome!
