Disabled in the Field: Navigating Nature and Academia as a Disabled Scientist

Dr. Kelsey Byers, group leader at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, UK, will be the inaugural speaker of the CBS Community Seminar Series. She will present “Disabled in the Field: Navigating Nature and Academia as a Disabled Scientist,” on Dec. 4 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The event will be held in the SSC Atrium and online (request the Teams link through this form).

Grad Preview Day

Learn more about the master’s and doctoral programs offered within the College of Biological Science! Grad Preview Day will be held on Nov. 10 from 2 to 4:30 in the Summerlee Science Complex atrium and will include a presentation on graduate studies in CBS by the Office of the Associate Dean of Research, as well as tours of research labs and facilities, program-specific informational booths, research poster presentations from graduate students and free pizza!

One Health Lecture Series: Governance and Operationalization Challenges

The concept of One Health has been around for centuries, but the official term was adopted in 2004. Despite its devastation for human health, the COVID-19 pandemic had the advantage of raising awareness regarding the One Health approach globally. A “One Health High Level Expert Panel” (OHHLEP), launched in June 2021, proposed a definition for the One Health approach on Dec 1, 2021, at the same time as a special World Health Assembly session was taking place to initiate discussions about a potential pandemic treaty.
