Initiatives in Global Justice Series - ''Intercultural Competence and the Ethics of Teaching International Development'' -Prof. Andrea Paras

Initiatives in Global Justice hosts lectures, study groups, workshops, and conferences that explore the ethical and socio-political dimensions of urgent problems that are transnational in scope, such as global warming, war and humanitarian intervention, food security, and chronic poverty. Professor Paras' talk will present research conducted in the context of short-term international study abroad programs, and consider how and why intercultural training should be integrated into teaching in IDS.

CIP Photo Exhibition

Each year, the Centre for International Programs(CIP) runs the "Show Us Your World" photo contest, which showcases the photos of students who have studied abroad on a University of Guelph Study Abroad (Exchange, Field School or Semester Abroad) program during the previous academic year. The exhibition will display some of the best study abroad photos (and CIP's favourites) from 10 years of the photo contest.

Cinema Night- The Pianist

In this adaptation of the autobiography "The Pianist: The Extraordinary True Story of One Man's Survival in Warsaw, 1939-1945," Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a Polish Jewish radio station pianist, sees Warsaw change gradually as World War II begins. Szpilman is forced into the Warsaw Ghetto, but is later separated from his family during Operation Reinhard. From this time until the concentration camp prisoners are released, Szpilman hides in various locations among the ruins of Warsaw.

Nepal Field School Information Session

This 3-week field school in April and May 2017 aims to deepen students' awareness and understanding of the connection between tourism and social entrepreneurship, culminating in a 12-day field trip to Nepal. The program involves one week in class on the Guelph campus at the beginning of the program followed by 12 days trekking in Nepal. Please note: The 12 days trekking can be physically challenging and therefore requires an appropriate level of fitness. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply for the program.
