Complementary Studies Web Page
Welcome!
“I wish I had taken my electives more seriously in undergrad. There was so much I could have learned if I had thought about it ahead of time.” – former Guelph engineering student
Complementary studies are electives that give you the opportunity to broaden your knowledge of government, society, economy, culture, etc., through social sciences, arts, and humanities. They allow you to better understand how engineering impacts society at large. These courses are not directly related to the technical aspects of engineering but they are a requirement of your B.Eng degree and the accreditation process..
"I think if I had more knowledge about this in first year, like these are the things the accreditation board wants us to have, I might have picked my complementary studies courses a bit differently or if I knew maybe what skills I wanted to develop...".
Interested in learning more about soft skills and essential skills? Looking for ideas about which complementary courses to take? Interested in hearing what engineering alumni have to say? We can help! Want a little more? Then stay a little longer and learn which facts are truth or myth.
