If you are looking to further your academic career in the field of agricultural economics you may be interested in our graduate programs. Deadline for graduate applications to FARE’s MSc and PhD programs has been extended to February 20, 2015. We continue to welcome your applications.

There is a wide diversity of career opportunities available to FARE graduates, and sometimes their paths unite. For instance, Stewart Skinner (MSc. ‘10) and Johanna Wilkes (MSc ‘13) serve as Policy Advisors, and Christina Crowley (Bachelor of Commerce in Food and Agricultural Business ‘09) serves as Communications Advisor for Honourable Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in Ontario. All three were appointed in late 2014.

On Tuesday December 2, the Ontario Agricultural College held their annual Graduate Awards Banquet. A number of FARE graduate students received awards at this event, including:

Longfeng Wang, who received the Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Scholarship,

Emily Brennan and Rachel Vriezen, who both received a Soden Memorial Scholarship in Agriculture,

On Monday December 1, 2014, John Cranfield, a professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural & Resource Economics, will present his talk "New Consumer Trends and the Opportunity for Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food Businesses" during a Farm Management Canada webinar.

Andreas Boecker, Prof. at U of G's Department of Food, Agricultural & Resource Economics, FARE is speaking about GMO Labelling at the Food Regulatory and Quality Assurance Summit in Toronto on Oct. 20.

Peter Slade, Ph.D. Candidate, Dept. of FARE, will give a brown bag seminar titled "A Structural Model of Hiring, Promotion, and Job Exit With Application to Gender and Academic Hiring"

Dr. Keith Coble will present "The Effects of the Agricultural Act of 2014 on Optimal Choice of Farm-level Insurance Coverage Levels" on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, 2:30-4:00 pm in Room 101, J.D. MacLachlan.  

Yong Liu’s Master of Science defence took place on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014 at 1:00 pm in Room 107, J.D. MacLachlan Building.  The title of his presentation is: "Rating Area-Yield Crop Insurance Contracts Using Bayesian Model Averaging and Mixture Models”

Jianqing Chen’s Master of Science defence took place on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014 at 9:00 am in Room 107, J.D. MacLachlan Building.  The title of his presentation is: "Ex Ante Evaluation of the Economic Impact of Adopting Genomic Selection: The Case of Beef Cattle in Canada”
