Nina Berry
Hello, my name is Nina Berry. I live in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. For three weeks in October, 2014, I will be volunteering in Hanoi, Vietnam as a Student Internship Program Advisor. I graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics (Speech Pathology) and did post-graduate studies at the University of Windsor studying a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) degree. I currently work at the University of Guelph at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre (MSAC). MSAC is a leading public art gallery with an internationally recognized Inuit art collection and one of the largest and most comprehensive contemporary sculpture parks in Canada. One of the most interesting aspects of my position is that I work closely with the curator to foster and nurture the future careers of fine art students who apply to our department for practical "real-life" museological and curatorial experience.
I applied to Leave for Change because I wanted to collaborate with a development agency and offer my skills to effect positive change in an educational facility. I am eager to offer my assistance in a project that will explore diverse challenges and needs, and then produce a plan for putting those guidelines into action and providing meaningful and positive solutions to the individuals I meet and work with. The organizational pillars of CECI and WUSC's Uniterra program will be the foundation of the assistance I hope to give, and to ensure that gender equality in education will be at the forefront of my volunteer objectives.
