First came the hallowed whisky trails of Scotland. Closer to home, the wine trails in southern Ontario and British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley followed. Now, the small European country of Estonia is eyeing its own claim to fame — a world-renowned vodka trail — thanks to Guelph researchers.

The University of Guelph has appointed its first Food Laureate. Anita Stewart, an expert on food and Canadian cuisine, will serve as the University’s honorary food ambassador, providing advocacy and leadership and promoting initiatives.
It’s believed to be the first such position in the world.
“This historic appointment is a significant step towards strengthening U of G’s reputation as ‘Canada’s food university,’” said president Alastair Summerlee.

University of Guelph cross-country runner Joanna Brown won the bronze medal Saturday at the World Under 23 Triathlon Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.
She finished with a time of 2:14.12 and, at age 20, was the youngest competitor on the podium. It was the first time she competed in the race.
