Everybody’s got their two cents’ worth on tipping.

Whether tapped out on tipping or generous with gratuities for food and drink, patrons and servers don’t always see eye-to-eye on tips, say experts.

“A tip is our way of saying thank you for doing a great job,” says etiquette expert Margaret Page.

As soon as it becomes expected, then it’s part of a person’s wage or salary and it’s not optional, says Ms. Page of Etiquette Page Enterprises in Vancouver.

While America was pondering who to elect president, California was contemplating Proposition 37. It would have required genetically modified organisms in food to be labelled.

It failed at the ballots, but it has inspired a broader referendum about our continental food supply, and some think it could influence Canada’s policies on food labelling in the not-so-distant future.

Research by Julia Christensen Hughes, dean of the College of management and Economics, will be featured in a documentary premiering tonight at 9 p.m. on CBC TV.

"Faking the Grade" looks at cheating and academic misconduct. It features interviews with students, administrators, parents and teachers who discuss their experiences around “Academic Integrity,” and interviews with experts, including Christensen Hughes, about why students cheat.

The University of Guelph has appointed its first Food Laureate. Anita Stewart, an expert on food and Canadian cuisine, will serve as the University’s honorary food ambassador, providing advocacy and leadership and promoting initiatives.

It’s believed to be the first such position in the world.

“This historic appointment is a significant step towards strengthening U of G’s reputation as ‘Canada’s food university,’” said president Alastair Summerlee.
