A paper by Jane Londerville, an associate professor and interim chair of Marketing and Consumer Studies, released by the Macdonald-Laurier Institute for Public Policy in November, was quoted in a recent article by the Globe and Mail concerning Genworth taking back its share of the mortgage market.

February 3: Research Must Reach the Wider Public, says Associate Dean Sylvain Charlebois

The last thing Prof. Sylvain Charlebois wants to do is keep his research a secret.  “As a researcher, I feel it is part of my duty to convey some of the knowledge we create to the wider public. We are part of a publicly-funded institution, so we have a responsibility to the public. Yes, it is challenging for any academic to translate for this audience, but it is also exciting.”

January 31: HTM Professor Optimizes Fine Wine Sales and Inventory Productivity

Professor Joe Barth, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, addressed 80 members of the Canadian Society of Club Managers at McMaster University on January 30th.  He presented his new revenue management statistic that can be used to optimize fine wine sales and inventory productivity.

January 31: Dean Speaks to the Death-care Professionals

Julia Christensen Hughes, Dean College of Management and Economics spoke at the Ontario Association of Cemetery and Funeral Professionals (OACFP) 97th Annual Education Conference in October 2010.  She is quoted in the article, "Driving on the Road to Discovery", in the journal Network:  Canadian Cemetery Management (Issue, January 2011).

January 31: Economics Graduate named VP, Information Technology and CIO at Northwestern University

U of G graduate (B.A. and M.A. Economics) Sean Reynolds will take the position of VP, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Northwestern University this spring.

Prior to his appointment, Reynolds spent 15+ years in progressively responsible IT roles at U of G. His career has spanned from a student consultant on the Help Desk, through providing IT support at the department and faculty level, to increased management responsibility for a wide range of central IT functions.

Reynolds is currently the CIO at Queens University.

January 31: U of G Team Wins at Accounting Case Competition

Last weekend, the College of Management and Economics sent two Accounting teams to compete at the University of Ottawa’s Accounting Case Competition. The managerial accounting team won first place while the financial accounting team placed fourth. Congratulations to both teams!

January 28: Dean Keynote Speaker at Zonta Club of Guelph's International Women's Day

Celebrate International Woman's Day at a buffet breakfast with the Zonta Club of Guelph & area.  The breakfast will feature keynote speaker Dr. Julia Christensen Hughes, Dean of the College of Management and Economics who will be discussing Advancing the Status of Women in Business and Academe: "A Report Card- How we are doing?"
