CBE submits report to UN on responsible business education activities

The University of Guelph’s College of Business and Economics (CBE) has submitted their Sharing Information on Progress (SIP) report to the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). This report details the college’s activities related to sustainability and responsible management within the framework of the United Nations Global Compact between 2016 and 2018.

In 2018, the United Nations’ renewed CBE’s status as a PRME Champion. In doing so, the college remains committed to:

U of G business graduate kicks off new season of Dragons’ Den

University of Guelph business alumnus Gavin Armstrong appeared on last night’s season premiere of Dragons’ Den, pitching Lucky Iron Fish and his social enterprise Lucky Iron Fish Enterprise (LIFE).

LIFE is a Toronto-based social enterprise dedicated to reducing iron deficiency through simple innovations.

Developing a business model that gives back to those in need by donating a Lucky Iron Fish with each purchase, his entrepreneurialism and business embodies the spirit of the University of Guelph’s commitment to improve life.

Become a certified Living Planet Leader through WWF’s new campus program

World Wildlife Fund Canada is inviting University of Guelph students to join the Living Planet @ Campus program, which promotes sustainability and certifies students as Living Planet Leaders.

The program aims to enhance a culture of sustainability and promote the protection of nature by engaging post-secondary students in meaningful actions.

New program aims to improve wellness of graduate students

With the launch of the THRIVE Thursday Talks (T3) program, the College of Business and Economics hopes to help improve student wellness for graduate students in the college.

T3 is geared to CBE graduate students and features a one-hour talk over lunch each month. Each talk will focus on one of the 8 aspects of wellness. The first talk takes place on Thursday, September 27th from 11:45 to 1:00pm (lunch is provided) and focuses on financial well-being and how graduate students can get a handle on their finances.

Professor Lianne Foti received the Dr. William Winegard Exemplary Volunteer Involvement Award at this morning’s U of G Community Breakfast, which is an award that recognizes significant community involvement and charitable activities beyond what an individual does as an employee or student of the University.

U of G student entrepreneur who hopes to disrupt the money loan industry wins $500 award

In a high-pressure competition last week, student entrepreneurs pitched their businesses in 3 minutes or less to a panel of judges, competing for the Warren and Deborah Jestin Award at the CBaSE Hub Incubator Pitch Finals.

Congratulations to Wyatt Trainer, founder of Lendly, on winning this year’s award. Lendly is a Peer-to-Peer Lending platform that connects borrowers to lenders, in a similar way to how ride-sharing connects riders to drivers.

Food & Agricultural Business student wants consumers to understand how food gets to their plates

While some kids dreamt of becoming a fireman or policeman, Dylan knew he wanted to be a farmer. But growing up in a city, Dylan saw first-hand the misconceptions that people had about farming. While in the Bachelor of Commerce, Food and Agricultural Business program, he learned how the business of farming truly worked and realized that farmers need a voice to communicate to the broader public about where their food comes from. That’s when the planning for his documentary, Before the Plate, first began.
