The 3rd annual Qualitative Accounting Research Symposium took place last week at the University of Guelph, a research initiative organized by the college’s Department of Management. The annual symposium brings together researchers and accounting faculty from across the world – including CBE graduate students and faculty - who share an interest in qualitative accounting research from diverse methodological and theoretical perspectives.

The Centre for Business and Student Enterprise (CBaSE) hosted their Hub Startup Showcase on Wednesday night, featuring a high-pressure pitch competition for student entrepreneurs in their Hub Incubator Program to win cash for their business.

Three prizes were up for grabs, including the: Warren & Deborah Jestin Impact Award, Executive’s Choice Award, and People’s Choice Award.

The ninth annual Canada’s Food Price Report was released today, indicating that the average Canadian family can expect to spend $411 more on food in 2019 thanks to more expensive fruit and vegetables.

The annual report is a joint project between researchers from Dalhousie University and from the College of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph. The expected increase in food spending in 2019 is mostly due to an anticipated price hike of as much as six per cent for produce.

On Friday, more than 850 first-year U of G Bachelor of Commerce students learned first-hand how to manage an ethical dilemma, as part of a live case competition for their Introduction to Business class.

With the changing needs of today’s workforce and student expectations, the U of G’s College of Business and Economics has refreshed their major in Management, providing students with a flexible and versatile major for a wide variety of career options.

As part of a new partnership with Fidelity Investments Canada, four University of Guelph female finance students were awarded the Fidelity Investments Canada Theory of Finance Scholarship, valued at $1,000 each.
