Anishinaabemowin is an endangered language and one of the most complex languages in the world. Residential Schools banned the speaking of Indigenous languages and only recently was Anishinaabemowin learning prioritized in public schools and institutions. This scholarship is intended to contribute to its revitalization and celebrate the achievement of Indigenous language learners who best demonstrate creativity, which is essential to the spirit of Anishinaabemowin. Indigenous students are required to confirm their First Nations, Inuit or Métis identity by completing the Indigenous Identity Confirmation Process for Students. Selection will be based on the best and most creative translation of a poem, story, or song that captures the spirit of the Anishinaabe, as a course requirement in INDG*1100 Indigenous Language and Culture. In the event of a tie, selection will be based on the highest grade on the assignment. In the event of a secondary tie, selection will be based on the final grade in INDG*1100.

Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) students registered in any program who completed INDG*1100 Indigenous Language and Culture in the previous academic year.
