This scholarship was established in memory of Cappi, the beloved Toy Poodle of the Domingo family who passed away in 2024. Throughout his 19 years, Cappi never stopped being a playful puppy and he brought an abundance of love and happiness into the lives of his family. As many veterinarians were involved in Cappi’s care, it is important to the Domingo family that caring and passionate students are rewarded and encouraged to pursue a career in "small animal medicine”, ensuring our pets can continue receiving exceptional care. Apply during the fall call from the OVC Dean's office with a 1-page letter detailing your involvement (work/volunteer) with a non-profit or community organization related to companion animal welfare, as well as your participation in the OVC Welfare Club. Please include any leadership roles you have held, the total number of work or volunteer hours, and a reflection on how your efforts have contributed to improving companion animal welfare. Selection will be based on student’s reflection on how their involvement helped contribute to improving companion animal welfare, leadership roles held, and hours contributed, as ranked by the Animal Welfare Club faculty advisors. In the event of equally qualified candidates, selection will be based on the highest weighted DVM program average.
Students registered in the DVM program who have worked/volunteered with a non-profit or community organization related to companion animal welfare, have been involved with the OVC Animal Welfare Club, and have listed companion animal practice as their Veterinary Clinical Practice career objective in their entrance survey. Preference will be given to students who have held leadership roles as part of their work/volunteer activities related to companion animal welfare.
