Sally Humphries (University of Guelph) and her late partner, Leo Smits (Humber College and University of Guelph-Humber) both worked in the Global South in community development and community-engaged research during their academic careers. The award was set up to support graduate students, particularly those from the Global South, with a research focus on community-engaged scholarship. Apply by May 15 to the CSAHS Awards Committee at csahs.awards@uoguelph.ca with a maximum 500 word letter outlining how your research involves engagement in community development and the impact on your local communities. Selection will be based on research with the greatest impact on engagement in local community development.
Students registered in the Masters or Doctoral International Development Studies Specialization whose research is focused on community engagement and improving the lives of local families including but not limited to studying food systems, the natural environment, local political economy, gender, and social justice. Preference will be given in the following order: 1) students paying the International tuition fee rates from the Global South (defined as countries eligible for official development assistance by the OECD) 2) students paying the International tuition fee rates 3) Students registered in a Masters program.
