Alf Hales and Mary (Graham) Hales met as students at the Ontario Agricultural College and Macdonald Institute, later the University of Guelph. There they made life long friends, acquired an educational foundation and established interests that continued throughout their lives and are reflected in the subject of this scholarship. Equally important was their keen interest in young people whose potential could benefit local communities and our nation, Canada. Selection will be based first on demonstrated financial need, and second on highest average. Preference will be given to an entering student, or student in class levels 1, 2 or 3. Full-time students registered in a program offered by the department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition with demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).
