Frequently Asked Questions: 2023-24 Tuition

FAQs for Ontario First-Year Students

Recognizing that there are select post-secondary programs across the province that have tuition fees below the sector average for similar programs, institutions had the ability to apply for tuition adjustments to help correct these tuition inequities and to align fees with market rates. U of G has three select programs that are significantly below the sector average and received approval for a tuition adjustment for these three programs. Tuition for Ontario students in all other programs remains frozen.

The University increased tuition for the following degrees and majors:

  • Bachelor of Commerce – all majors
  • Bachelor of Engineering – select majors
    • Biological Engineering
    • Engineering Systems & Computing
    • Environment Engineering
    • Undeclared Engineering
    • Water Resources Engineering
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

All Ontario universities were eligible to apply for permission to adjust tuition rates for select programs where rates were significantly below the sector average.

We recommend that you consider applying for government aid through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). There are also financial awards at U of G that you may be eligible for. Visit the Scholarships & Financial Aid website for more information.

FAQs for Domestic Out-of-Province First-Year Students

Post-secondary institutions recently had the opportunity to adjust tuition rates in select programs where existing rates are significantly below the sector average for comparable programs.

The University of Guelph's B.Comm. program and the specific B.Eng. majors listed below are ones that are significantly below the sector average, and we will be increasing the 2023-24 tuition rate by 7.5 per cent to correct the tuition inequity.

  • Biological Engineering
  • Engineering Systems & Computing
  • Environment Engineering
  • Undeclared Engineering
  • Water Resources Engineering

Domestic tuition rates for provincially regulated programs in Ontario were reduced by 10 per cent in 2019. Last year, the Government of Ontario introduced flexibility to increase tuition fees for domestic out-of-province students by up to 5 per cent. These incremental 5 per cent increases will bring the tuition rate for domestic out-of-province students to the level it was prior to 2019 and help the University continue to provide a high-quality academic experience to our students.

All Ontario universities were eligible to apply for permission to adjust tuition rates for select programs where rates were significantly below the sector average.

Decisions have not been made about domestic tuition rate adjustments for the 2024-25 academic year.
