Winter Wellness Walking Tour
Back by popular demand, Wellness@Work hosted a "Winter Wellness Walking Tour" led by Steve Nyman. The sun was out and the air was crisp, with over twenty faculty and staff joining the walk. Steve shared interesting historical facts about the campus, which was accompanied by his “Gryphons Walk for Wellness” guide.
Why Walk in the Winter?
Here are 3 reasons why making the trek outside is worth it:
- Clear your mind and reduce stress
Getting out of your work environment for a winter walk might seem like a hassle with all of your winter apparel and fleece layers, but once you’re outside, you often feel refreshed and renewed.
The cold winter air can help clear your mind and reduce stress. When you return to your work, you will be ready to take on new challenges with a renewed focus.
- Soak up some vitamin D
With shorter days and less sunshine, it can be challenging to get enough vitamin D in the winter months. Going for a walk during the day can help your body produce the ‘sunshine vitamin’ to support healthy and strong bones.
- Boost your mood and confidence
Taking time to recognize the beauty of our campus can help you practice being more mindful in your everyday life. Bringing attention to the sights, sounds and feelings you experience while on a wintry walk can help enhance your mood.
A brisk walk can help enhance feelings of happiness as you release endorphins during your exercise.
Stay tuned for the next Wellness@Work walking tour coming to the West side of Main Campus this Spring. Hope to see you there!
