Hear from one of Canada’s foremost leaders in diplomacy and international development, Canada's Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the UN, Bob Rae. Rae will reflect on Canada’s leadership role in promoting sustainable, inclusive and evidence-based approaches to development and international cooperation, followed by Q&A. Jason Moreton, VP external, and Dr. Andrea Paras, director of the Guelph Institute of Development Studies, will also offer remarks. All faculty, staff, students and community members are welcome to attend virtually on Monday, Feb.

One Health Seminar: Microbiome Stewardship and One Health

Kieran C. O’Doherty is professor in the department of psychology at the University of Guelph, where he directs the Discourse, Science, Publics research Group. His research focuses on the social and ethical implications of science and technology. In this context, he has published on such topics as data governance, vaccines, human tissue biobanks, salmon genomics, and genetic testing.

National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, also known informally as White Ribbon Day, is a day commemorated in Canada each December 6, the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, in which fourteen women were murdered and ten others injured in the name of "fighting feminism". Each December 6th, The University of Guelph School of Engineering commemorates this event through the themes of Remember, Reflect, Respond.

One Health Seminar: Mapping One Health Initiatives in Latin America

Dr. Natalia Cediel Becerra, Associate Professor and Researcher at Universidad de La Salle (Colombia), will speak on mapping One Health (OH) initiatives and stakeholders in Latin America. It is a key first step in the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) One Health policy. International agencies such as PAHO and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) have strengthened the capacity of many countries around the prevention of zoonoses for more than 6 decades, creating a good baseline for OH implementation.

Go PHYS Girl

Based on the success of Go PHYS Girl earlier this year, Guelph Physics, Creative Encounters and Women in Engineering are planning another Go PHYS Girl event on November 30. This event will be designed for all girl and non-binary students in Grades 7 to 10 to spend a half-day on campus to learn all about the incredible world of Physics and future career opportunities.
