Electronic Shop

The Electronic Shop is a pivotal component of the Department of Chemistry.

The Electronic Shop offers services from basic repairs to complete custom designs to keep you at the forefront of your research. In addition to repairing, designing, and building electronics, the Electronic Shop is also available for consulting services and are open and available for all your electronic-based questions.  

We offer our services campus-wide and are open to external requests for work. If you are outside of the university, please contact us for more information. Members of the university can submit a Work Request Form from the menu on the right.

Electronic Shop Services

The Electronic Shop at the University of Guelph’s Department of Chemistry offers a wide range of services to meet your needs. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We repair a variety of laboratory equipment, including but not limited to:

  • Stir plates
  • Hot plates
  • Electrophoresis equipment
  • Centrifuges
  • Shakers
  • Any other electronic equipment

We design and manufacture new and innovative equipment to suit your needs. Our services include:

  • Prototyping
  • Whole system designs

We offer services related to computer hardware and programming, including:

  • LabVIEW programming
  • FPGA programming
  • Arduino programming

Our team is skilled in both analog and digital circuit design and fabrication. We work with:

  • Arduino
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Printed circuit board design and fabrication
  • Microcontrollers
  • AI
  • Chip level and system integration

We provide consultation services for:

  • Equipment purchases (e.g., European instruments)
  • Following regulations on importation
  • Determining if the instrument will work in Canada and what additional requirements you may need prior to purchasing.

MACN 062 (Basement of MacNaughton Building)

  • Take any of the staircases in the MacNaughton building to the basement.
  • Follow the yellow signs on the walls leading to the Electronic Shop.
