Christi Cooper, Manager of Agricultural & Veterinary Safety (MAVS)

The Manager of Agricultural & Veterinary Safety provides guidance on legislative requirements and risk mitigation with a primary focus on agricultural and veterinary safety. The MAV develops comprehensive safety programs and training, and also provides expertise for EHS assessments for event planning including Convocation, College Royal, O-Week and those run by academic programs such as hosting volunteers.

Rachel Pinto, Manager Occupational Hygiene and Safety (MOHS)

The Manager of Occupational Hygiene and Safety manages and oversees a comprehensive occupational hygiene program for the University and a  safety program that is primarily focused on facilities and the industrial areas of University operations. The MOHS provides guidance and technical support to the University community in these areas on environmental health and safety matters, regulatory governance, due diligence, and loss prevention. The MOHS also provides expertise for training, hazard assessments, incident investigations and EHS assessments for facility renewals and renovations.

The Senior Health and Safety Consultant is responsible for facility safety primarily in the construction/contracting, maintenance and industrial areas of University operations. This includes promoting health and safety, providing expertise, training, developing, implementing, monitoring and coordinating workplace EHS programs, inspections, and incident investigations in areas such as working at heights, control of hazardous energy, machine guarding, lifting devices and confined spaces. The Senior Health and Safety Consultant serves as the University’s Asbestos Coordinator. 

Bryan Lee, Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Occupational Hygiene)

The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Occupational Hygiene) develops, implements and manages programs in the specialized area of occupational hygiene that includes such topics as Indoor Air Quality, Noise, Mould, Chemical Exposures, Designated Substances, Thermal Stress, Respiratory Protection and Personal Protective Equipment. The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Occupational Hygiene) provides training, conducts occupational hygiene assessments and monitoring for example, chemical exposure monitoring, and noise surveys, investigates, and recommends measures to mitigate/control hazardous workplace exposures.

The Manager of Research Risk manages and oversees the Biosafety, Laboratory Safety and Radiation Safety programs for the University and provides expertise for EHS assessment, management and regulatory compliance within research and teaching programs.

The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Research) is responsible for supporting research and academic safety frameworks including the Radiation and Biosafety Programs.  The programs consist of training, inspections, internal permitting and regulatory licensing, dosimetry, purchase or movement approvals and disposal. The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Research) also investigates and follows-up with related incidents or emergencies.

The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Radiation) is responsible for managing all aspects of the Radiation Safety Program, which includes nuclear substances, lasers, x-rays. The program consists of training, inspections, internal permits and regulatory licensing, dosimetry, purchase and disposal. The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Radiation) also investigates and follow-ups with radiation-related incidents or emergencies. Karan is the lead for Radiation safety permits (issued under the consolidated and nuclear medicine licenses) as well as the APXS license, including radioactive wastes, and purchases.

The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Biosafety) manages all aspects of the Biosafety Program, which encompasses microorganisms potentially infectious to humans, animals, or plants, human and non-human primate blood and body fluids, human and animal cell cultures. The program includes training, inspections, internal permits, licensing, and the import, export or transfer of biohazardous materials. The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Biosafety) also investigates and follows up with incidents or emergencies involving biohazardous materials.

The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Laboratory) manages all aspects of the Laboratory Safety Program, that is designed to provide guidance, and minimum standards related to the identification, assessment and control of typical hazards found in laboratory settings. This includes training, inspections, chemical safety (WHMIS), the use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training and certification, hazardous waste disposal (chemical and biological). The Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Laboratory) also investigates and follows up with lab-related incidents or emergencies.
