eDNA Sampling Under the Bridge

In this photo I am sampling for environmental DNA (eDNA) to detect a species at risk, the Wavy-rayed Lampmussel. Aquatic organisms shed DNA into the environment, which can be sampled to learn if a species is present or not. These surveys can help to identify and protect endangered or threatened species, aiding conservationists in preserving biodiversity. Working under Dr. Robert Hanner, the focus of my research project is to validate and improve eDNA methods for use in river habitats.
