Feeding Time at the Ontario Beef Research Centre

Research conducted at this facility and within this lab group includes using feed additives to improve beef cows' productivity, profitability, and performance. Additionally, work has been conducted to assess methane production, fetal programming, and forage quality. The aim of this research group is to improve the sustainability of the beef industry through nutrition.
Inside a bright, modern barn, beef cows poke their heads through metal feeding gates after the feeding tractor has passed by and distributed their meal. Steam from their warm breath fogs the image, and the closest cow, animal ID 35F, looks intently at the person behind the camera.
