Highway to Hell

An endangered Jefferson salamander pauses briefly on the road before it attempts to cross, heading to its breeding pond. As infrastructure continues to expand in southern Ontario, threats of vehicle intensity and habitat loss also increase. By finding where the salamanders are crossing, we’ll be able to inform the region where to install eco-passages to protect the animals from road mortality. Its tail is missing; either from a predator nibbling at it or from being hit previously by a vehicle. Luckily, they can regenerate them!
