A bright pink flame is produced when copper reacts with the ceramic coating of a graphite crucible. Copper is a common addition to Aluminium alloys because of its strengthening properties. The bright orange oxide of the copper dulls as the temperature increases, and the sunset tones of the reaction seem to absorb its vibrancy.
