Gold Nanoparticle-based Treatment for Canine Prostate Cancer (3)

My research is focused on urogenital cancers specifically those of bladder and prostatic origin. Current treatments of systemic chemotherapy and/or local radiation have limited efficacy and significant side effects. Our team conducted a pilot study in normal dogs to test the feasibility of procedure involving the injection of Gold nanoparticles. In order to evaluate the retention of the gold nanoparticles within the prostate, a series of CT scans (pictured) were preformed throughout the observation period. The goal of this novel therapy is to increase specificity of cancer treatment by delivering therapeutic agents directly to the tumor using the blood supply that feeds it.
