The Centre for Biodiversity Genomics conducts field trips to museums to harvest DNA from identified species to help build the DNA barcode library. In some cases we are unable to borrow the specimens, so instead we do all of the processing on site. We use blue removal labels to mark where specimens are taken out of a collection. The specimens are then placed inside our arrayed boxes. Yellow labels are added to the specimens to indicate they have been chosen for DNA barcoding and the label information links it with an online digital record on the Barcode Of Life Data System (BOLD). This array of labels was used while on a trip to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC, USA.
