A team of doctors and veterinarians surround an anesthetized canine patient while positioning for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatment of an aggressive bone tumour, an osteosarcoma.  Osteosarcoma is the most common bone tumour in dogs and children.  HIFU leads to immediate cell death by raising the temperature of the tumour tissue without damaging the skin or surrounding tissues.  This novel non-invasive research aims to help both dogs and children affected by this aggressive and painful tumour.

In the background is an MRI tube, in the foreground, 6 people attend to a curly haired dog that lays on the MRI bed.
