For my thesis research I am seeking to develop a design approach for integrating plants such as wildflowers into small pavement openings/cracks. The design goal is to increase pollinator habitat and enliven grey urban areas dominated by hardscape. The first phase of my research has involved studying and taking photos of wild urban plants already growing in pavement cracks as a design precedent. This process has led me to bike and walk over 400 km around cities in Southern Ontario, which has been a lot of fun.
